Why We Love Glaze Donut’s New Ice Cream

Last week we got the opportunity to return to one of our favorite donut shops, Glaze Donuts, and test out their recently launched ice cream flavors. We met Jule Hazou, the owner of Glaze, and got the opportunity to talk to him about the inspiration behind the ice cream and the evolution of the store. Here’s a list of some reasons why we love Glaze Donuts and its new ice cream.

  • The ice cream is made on the premises with fresh, local ingredients. We love supporting local businesses and it’s nice to know that what you’re eating is farmed fairly and locally. All of the ingredients for Glaze’s ice cream come from local farmers, and the ice cream is made fresh at the Wayne store. Not to mention we all know freshly made ice cream is the bomb. The finished product is a collection of classic and unique flavors that include fresh ingredients like real pistachios and strawberries.

  • The flavors are unique and delicious. Of course they offer the classics, chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry, but if you’re a more adventurous ice cream eater there’s also something for you. Have you ever had maple bacon ice cream? We tried Glaze’s version and absolutely couldn’t stop eating. It’s a sweet and salty combo that sends your taste buds on a thrill ride. Some other ones we enjoyed were Nutella, Creamsicle, and root beer.

  • You can’t go wrong with donuts and ice cream. Glaze puts donuts on literally everything. The combinations are endless. They have donut sundaes; we tried chocolate pretzel, peanut butter and banana, and s’mores. You can also have a donut ice cream sandwich; we tested out a cinnamon donut strawberry ice cream combination, so good. If you’re feeling adventurous, they’ll even put a donut on an ice cream cone. The possibilities are endless and so are the flavors. You have the ability to create your very own donut sundaes—dangerous, but delicious. So if you’re in the mood for a Boston cream donut with maple bacon ice cream, you can definitely fulfill that craving. Or if you’re feeling bold, just test out everything like us, because who needs diets anyway?

The aftermath.
  • The staff is friendly and welcoming. When you walk into any Glaze Donuts store you really get the sense it’s a family run operation. And that’s because it is. Jule opened the first Glaze Donuts (the New Milford location) in July 2014, and from there the business took off. The store took top prize for their cannoli donut at Donut Fest NYC. Glaze’s Italian rainbow donut exploded on social media and the company has been featured on Refinery29, Cosmopolitan, and Good Morning America. Yes their donuts are amazing and they have the awards to prove it, but that’s not the only reason we like Glaze. The staff is friendly and you can tell they care about their customers. We really felt welcomed at Glaze and we know you will too.

Now you know why we love Glaze, but don’t take our word for it, head up to the Wayne location and test out the ice cream for yourself. While ice cream is only being offered in the Wayne store, we would definitely encourage you to stop by the other locations as well, New Milford and Hackensack. You can stay up-to-date on Glaze Donut’s news, and receive the latest menu by following them on Instagram and checking out their website.

Stay hungry,

Caroline & Rachel
